Engraved by Christian Gottfried Rupenhausen (c.1800–1820)
This reproduction of Hogarth’s celebrated print lampoons drunken excess and hypocrisy among London’s respectable classes. The interior is filled with clergymen, magistrates, and military officers in varying states of intoxication, with Hogarth’s keen eye for satire preserved by Rupenhausen’s detailed linework.
